I teach marketing once in a while.
I basically know how it is to sell a product.
I have an officemate who has this converse all star shoes - in rustic color. there's no way i'm going to ask if it's original but the way I see it, he will not wear a counterfeit.
This reminds of my childhood. My father had a stroke when I was around six years old. He had a paralysis so he had no reflexes on his feet. One advice is for him to use leather sandals -hudyo-(jews)-style as footwear. Since it hurt, the next option was high-cut-converse shoes. Of course, I remember. I was the one in charge sa pagsuot at paghubad ng sapatos ni daddy.
That was in the early 80's and my mom by those pairs at P700.
Since I was a child, I'm not particular with shoes. It's just that, wearing shoes is school and office requirement. In contrast, my kuya is the one who has fancy with - good and expensive shoes. I remember him as a kuripot child for him to have enough savings for original shoes and pants. That goes on today and inherited by his son. Imagine, in the late 80s his shoes are worth P1,000 plus.
Today, as I aspire to be considered quite a fashionista, I am still not into shoes. I just need the basic, a leather (for office) and a rubber shoes (field work). There was even a time that I did not have a rubber shoes. Kung kani-kanino ko naghahanap kapag fun run or activities which need sports attire. I also have this rule which I always break - to have more than one pair of shoes para hindi madaling maluma. As an inspiration, nagpagawa ako ng shoe rack.
For sentimental purposes, I thought of purchasing an original chuck taylor (whoever he is). I sent my son to a playground and checked the next converse store. The basic design which is closest to what dad had and basically the least expensive one costs P3,200. That is an amount that could buy a piece of appliance or three for visits to the grocery. For once, I realized that I can be sentimental doing other things.
Kupirot is a simple term for getting your hard earned money's worth. In that sense, I am.
I teach marketing, so I have to walk the talk.
I just find it hard to comprehend that two-in-row I bought shoes by merely seeing their picture in a Boardwalk catalogue - not sure if those pairs look or fit fine.
Maybe because it's one month to pay.
Maybe because of the price, P699 and it's year 2013.
